I was born and raised in the heart of Split, a city where my family set up their roots 600 years ago.
The Diocletian’s Palace was my playground; I shot my first polaroid at age 5 on our famous Riva.
(I captured a seagull and a palm tree); my first faculty assignment had me wonder around my beautiful hometown taking photos of places where I spent most of my childhood and youth (Riva, Prokurative, Peristil, streets of Palace, Vidilica, Bacvice Beach, Marjan hill…). I always loved storytelling thus it was only natural, I earned my Masters in Journalism from the Faculty of Political Science at the University of Zagreb. I was the official “friends and family photographer” and thanks to my studies and work in journalism and a few photo exhibitions, I decided to follow my passion and turn photography into a full-time career.
For the last four years I have been Croatian New Yorker: I am living and working as a correspondent for one of the best-selling newspaper and magazine in Croatia; I earned a Photography degree from the prestigious New York Film Academy and I opened up my own photography service Photo by Mariachi, that specializes in portraits, family and couple photography, artistic street style photos and New York historical photography tours. I would consider my style to be one of photojournalism with a touch of art, a style in which I try to capture that special moment, a moment of joy and happiness to help you create lifelong memories.
Even though I truly love New York City, my heart and roots always remain in Split where I spend every summer months (July, August and half of September), ready to take you for a photo adventure to help you explore this magical city and to make you a part of its story (and history) through my lens. I am really looking forward to meeting you!
